A recent article in the Portland Business Journal had some pretty amazing statistics about our local craft beer scene:
- The Economic Impact of the Beer industry in Oregon is $2.83 Billion Dollars
- We have more craft breweries per capita than any state except Vermont
- Nearly half of Oregon-made beer is consumed here
The article also has great insight about the troubles our large brewers will have to grow their distribution footprint. Since Oregon isn’t exactly in the center of the United States, shipping is a big factor. The option taken by some growth players – to add contract brewing in the Midwest and East Coast isn’t a strategy many will consider. The quality control of making your own beer in your own facility is important to our top brewers. And, the access to fresh Oregon hops and clear, pure water are two big things that keep our local beer local. With so many Craft Beer drinkers in the local area, most will never have to expand beyond our great state. Cheers!

Rose City Label has applied for the Austin Family Business of the Year award through Oregon State University. We were nominated by friend and customer Jim Kennedy of Consolidated Business Machines – the award winner from 1997. Thank you Jim for your confidences in our company.
The Austin Family Business program at OSU was started by Ken and Joan Austin of A-Dec, the dental products company (and label customer) in Newberg, OR. The program is designed to train, coach, and inspire family businesses and to help them succeed. The program has many resources for businesses like ours, and more can be found at the program website by clicking here.
As part of the award competition, we prepared a PowerPoint presentation about our company and its history. You can download the presentation by clicking here.
The awards will be announced at a formal dinner in November 2013 and we are looking forward to it. Regardless of the outcome, we have learned much about our family and our business by going through this process. We are honored to be considered for this prestigious award.

Rose City Label is proud to renew our eco-certification with Clackamas County. We were first recognized in 2009, but the periodic review was important for us to make sure we are staying current with best business practices.
As with past certification visits, we had no areas to correct and we were commended for all the good things we do for the environment. We are constantly pushing for more ways to recycle our products!
Thank you for supporting our Green initiatives. We will continue to bring you more Earth friendly options for your labels in the future. Stay tuned.

The month of March and the first quarter ended with a BANG!
Though we aren’t driven by quarterly earnings like some big companies, we do like to finish each period strong. The final numbers are still being tallied, but it looks like this will be the best Q1 in the past 85 years — thank you all for your support. The UPS cart was full on friday, along with many large pallet shipments and other courier deliveries.
We couldn’t do any of it without the customers that put their faith in us each day.
