We are happy to continue our great partnership with SCRAP – the School Community Recycling Action Project. We participate in a wonderful program called, Fill Minds, not Landfills (FMNL), which diverts label waste to the SCRAP store to be sold or used in art camps. Just last month we donated 257 of obsolete, over-run, or defective labels to the program. This donation alone will provide a scholarship to two kids to Camp SCRAP this year.
Every business can participate, as there are SCRAP affiliates all over the country.

Good things are happening at Rose City Label as we install a new state of the art pre-press software and plate making system. This sophisticated system takes your art files and makes all the necessary changes and calibrations to ensure you get the finest quality printing plates.

During October, we have been very busy installing the machines, wiring and networking them together, and getting extensive factory training on how to use the software and hardware. We have always made most of our plates in-house, but over the past few years as the demand for very high quality full color printing has increased, we have chosen to outsource our most demanding plate work. Now we will have the equipment in our own building and be able to provide better quality plates faster than ever!

Many of you know that our John Stanford is a very talented musician. When he isn’t here organizing the production schedule, making plates, or sometimes running a press, he is out making music. For most of the past 14 years that John has been a part of our team, he has also played in a band on the weekends. His current band is the best one to date – Lock, Stock and Barrel. The band is described as ‘blues-inspired, Texas country and Southern rock’.
On September 6th, the group had a chance to work with one of the true legends of the music business, Willie Nelson.
Here is a great photo of John with Willie after the show, flanked by his wife and number one fan, Catherine, who is also a key part of the Rose City Label team. Catherine has worked in production in the past, but is now an important part of our Customer Service group in the office.
John said Willie was very complementary about his band’s performance and was willing to take the time to chat with a fan backstage. This was quite a thrill for Stanford, and a memory he will carry with him for the rest of his musical career.

I am not going to bore you with a long story about how things used to be ‘back when I joined the company’ almost 20 years ago, but I do have to marvel at the huge steps we have taken.
I am writing this from 35,000 feet, traveling at almost 600mph enroute to Chicago for a global label equipment show, LabelExpo.
It wasn’t that long ago that this was science fiction – now it is a daily reality!
On this flight I was able to text people, answer emails, and even create this blog post.
I am proud to be part of a progressive company that uses the latest technology to take care of customers and produce high quality labels.
