Many of our best customers were offended by the InBev (Budweiser) ad during the Super Bowl. If you missed the ad, it is feature on one of the links below, but basically it just mocks the growing craft beer industry. It is ironic that InBev is trying to buy up craft breweries to try to stay relevant in an era when small, quality craft beers are eating into their market share every year.
“It’s not brewed to be slammed, It’s brewed to taste good.”
Are they fans of craft beer? Or are they just terrified that craft beer is taking over their industry.
These videos from Hop Stories and Ninkasi tell the story very well – great reply to the Super Bowl ads – watch and enjoy!
We support the hard working police and fire fighters in our community – period. There are bad people in every profession and those individuals should be found, tried fairly, and removed from the force when warranted. We can’t afford to have a few bad people staining the image of our hard working public servants – 99% of them come to work every day to serve and protect us. Let’s stay focused on the 99%!
At Rose City Label, we have a separate division called Safety Badges that focuses on kids badge labels – these are given out to children at schools, parades and festivals to promote safety and also (maybe more importantly) to promote a positive interaction between youth and people in uniform. Without this positive interaction, many young people would just see the awful stories of abusive, dangerous police officers killing innocent people – this is not the whole story, or even the majority of the story. We need to help our officers tell the rest of the story, and badges can help.
Kids love badges! Do you know a policeman or fire fighter that could use these to build a community connection? Send them to www.safetybadges.com – for less than $0.05 per badge, they can put a smile on a kid’s face and make them see that the vast majority of people in uniform are positive, honorable public servants. Better yet – go online yourself and buy a box of generic badges and drop them off at your local police or fire station – that would make their day!
Thanks for joining with us to support these valuable community members that risk their lives for us daily.

This label shows one of the smallest bar codes we have ever seen used successfully. As you can see from the photo, this code is about 0.50″ wide and less than 0.125″ tall – and it scans!
The most amazing thing about this code is that is actually printed at the customer’s site on their 600 dpi thermal transfer printer with a white ribbon. To accurately print a code this small requires a precise combination of printer, ribbon, label stock, and print software settings. If any of these elements is off, the job won’t print properly. Everything must be working together for best performance.
At Rose City Label, we take pride in working with you to uncover all potential issues that may come up – even after the job leaves our plant. We work closely with you to make sure all the pieces fit together to get you a complete solution that works – on time, every time!
What do you need to look for in a vendor to provide this great label?
In this blog series, we will examine the many attributes of a truly great label. We will look at all the elements that we, as label professionals, look for in a label project:
1. Authentic branding and design to reflect your company mission, vision and vibe
2. Cost effective production strategy – colors, materials, quantity
3. Functional application – fitness for use as directed
4, Happy Customer- in the end, you are the ultimate person we try to please
Part 1 – Authentic Branding and Design (adapted from an article submitted to Oregon Beer Growler, September 2014)
Based on the thousands of label designs we have seen, people are always asking for our input about label designs. May answer is always the same – it has to match your authentic brand. Your entire business needs to have a cohesive and unified brand image – really the DNA or the ‘soul’ of the business. Every business has one, and it is up to the leader to closely guard, protect, and cultivate that brand. Once this brand is clearly defined, the website, the on-premise decor, the signage, and the labels should all flow directly from this core. That is what makes a great label design – a consistent look and feel that replicates the feeling of being in your pub in person. Some are upscale and polished – some are hand crafted and rustic – neither of these is right or wrong, it just has to be consistent to reinforce your brand image.
This is where it starts – the very first part of ‘What Makes a Great Label?’ – Begin with the brand. Stay tuned for the next installment – by the end you will have all of the elements and you can truly have a Great Label.
