Beautiful Cost Effective Wine Label

This beautiful 2 Color label was a perfect way for our good customer, Lachini Vineyards, to extend their product line without diluting their main premium wine brand, they wanted to create a secondary label that was very distinct from the look and feel of their main product line.

This wine will be sold for a much lower price point, so the label also had to be cost effective.  With a very simple, understated design, combined with the embossing effect, all parties were pleased with the end result.  This label will cost about half of what the standard premium wine label costs, but it still has a very eye-catching look that will help the wine stand out on the shelf.

Creative solutions are what we do best at Rose City Label — give us a challenge and we will meet it for you.  If you want to extend your product line – either up or down the quality scale – we can help you with a design and printing method to meet all your marketing goals.

Oregon Craft Beer – Still Room to Grow

Is the Oregon brewing industry over saturated?  NO!

According to this article on Oregon Live and the supporting research from the Oregon Employment Department, there is still room to grow for people that produce good quality beer.

With 188 licensed breweries in Oregon, the industry seems huge.  But, as the report points out, only 5,127 people actually work in this industry.  As with many other industries, there are a handful of very large players, but they are followed by many, many more very small producers.  The competition is forcing everyone to step up their game.  Just showing up with another hoppy IPA isn’t going to cut it anymore.  Brewers are being forced to find their specific area of expertise and stick to it.  Some choose a very tight geographic area and try to be the brewpub of choice for the neighborhood.  Some find a specialty type of beer and become the expert in that product.

Regardless of how they do it, the industry has grown to the point that everyone has to get back to basics – the basics of business, which require that you do something besides provide a ‘me too’ product with average service.

Only the strong and smart producers will thrive in this market and that is great news for our customers for us as Craft Beer lovers.

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon Assumes Co-Chairmanship of Senate Bipartisan Small Brewers Caucus

02/18/14
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) has been named co-chair of the Senate Bipartisan Small Brewers Caucus, which includes 20 members of the Senate from 14 states.
“With 161 brewing companies in Oregon employing 6,400 full and part-time employees, the small brewers are an important part of the Oregon economy,” Wyden said. “Leading this caucus with Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) at a time when small breweries are becoming a part of communities across the nation is an opportunity to make all members of Congress aware of the how breweries are becoming an important part of the national economy as well.”
The Brewers Association estimates that the craft brewing industry contributed $33.9 billon to the U.S. Economy in 2012 and provided more than 360,000 jobs, with 108,440 jobs directly at breweries and brewpubs.
The purpose of the caucus, which was established in June 2011, is to “provide a forum for members of the Senate and their staffs to discuss the issues important to small brewers while exploring what lawmakers can do to strengthen the growth and role of these small businesses in local economies across the country.”
Other members include, Mark Begich (D) and Lisa Murkowski (R) of Alaska; Michael Bennet (D) and Mark Udall (D) of Colorado; Thomas Carper (D) and Chris Coons (D) Delaware; Saxby Chambliss (R) of Georgia; Jerry Moran (R) of Kansas; Ben Cardin (D) and Barbara Mikulski (D) of Maryland; Amy Klobuchar (D) of Minnesota; Claire McCaskill (D) of Missouri; Jon Tester (D) of Montana; Jeanne Shaheen (D) of New Hampshire; Charles Schumer (D) of New York; D) Jeff Merkley (D) of Oregon; Mark Warner (D) of Virginia; and Maria Cantwell (D) of Washington.

Lachini Vineyards – Beautiful Labels and Amazing Wine

This family winery and vineyard has become a very strong customer for us the past few years.  They were frustrated with their previous vendor – price changes, missed deliveries and no consistent customer service.  Since we have been printing for them, things have been much smoother.  We always provide realistic due dates, communicate throughout the process, and do whatever it takes to meet their needs.  Most importantly, we have been able to provide excellent quality labels.  This label design prints very well on our printing presses, which is why they are such an ideal customer for us.  Because of our experience, we know what we do best and gravitate towards customers like this.

Make the Best of Product Name Conflicts

This is a wonderful story about a brewer that turned a conflict into a huge PR opportunity.

The story was reported recently on NPR and is worth reading.  Basically this small brewer named a beer after a popular Starbucks drink, thinking the coffee giant would never find out or care — there really isn’t much chance someone would confuse a pint of beer with a coffee drink, but Starbucks didn’t see it that way.

Instead of ‘lawyering up’ and putting himself out of business, this clever small business owner used it as an opportunity.  The attached story is long, but it is well worth the time to read it.  It is funny, but also a good reminder about thinking outside the box and taking an unconventional approach to problem solving.
