Preparing Artwork for Us to Print!

I just spoke with a client and I was having a hard time telling him about bleeds. Which is extra color that… well, if your color goes to the edge of the label… see? Bleed means simply that a color, image or whatever it is on your label goes past the die line (cut line). Also, most people who design their own label don’t know about the 1/16th of an inch from the die line. That’s so we don’t cut off important stuff on the label and everything looks symmetrical. Here’s an example:

Of course, this is a great label but it also applies to simple labels too! We like to also tell clients that we would like the fonts outlined or at least include them with the file you give us.

What a Machine!

The Primera CX1200 / FX1200 Digital Printing System

Scott Pillsbury, President, Rose City Label, “This is a great and established company. My family bought the business in the 1970s. My sister and I came to work here both about the same time, in the early ’90s. We’re getting close to 20 years in the business, and it’s always been a custom label manufacturing company, printing labels for businesses to go on their products for identification and marketing.

We’ve always been a long run, flexographic printer, and that’s still the majority of our work. We’ve brokered some digital work from time to time from other digital printers that had other machines, (more…)

A Miracle Machine at Rose City Label!

My name is Chris, I’m new here at Rose City Label, 3 months. Most have been here a whole lot longer. I’ve been a graphic artist for 25 years and I’ve never been so impressed with the Primera CX/FX Digital Printer. NO DIE! After you print the job on the Primera CX, the Primera FX has the ability to be programed to cut just about any die. Then you can take the waste away from that cut on a spool while the finished product gets rolled to another spool after being cut into however many rolls are needed. I could just watch it for hours and marvel at it’s ability. Lisa, our Art Director, runs these machines and has it down to a science. For shorter runs, it’s the best!

QR Codes – the future is here!

What are these funny squares?

QR codes are exciting new 2 dimensional bar codes that can be read from any smart  phone that has a free reader app installed.

What can these codes do?  They can:

  • Launch a website or specific page on a site
  • Send an email
  • Send a text message
  • Send a contact (vCard)
  • Launch a YouTube Video

You (the label owner) decide what you want to do when someone scans your QR code, and we can create the code and print it on your label.

It’s easy!  This is a great way to give your customers extended information about your product, while they are standing in front of it in the grocery store aisle.  More nutrition info, serving suggestions, or testimonials from your best customers telling them why they MUST put your product into their shopping cart, right now!

Call today to learn more about QR codes and how we can add them to your labels.

Perfect Label for the Rose City Label Team

Two sided printing, laminating, and Diecutting – this label has it all!

This label makes maximum use of our equipment and expertise. This run of nearly half a million labels was a great job for us!

Some labels are a perfect match for the Rose City Label equipment. In this case, label stock is brought in upside down and printed first on the adhesive side. The label stock is split and remarried after the adhesive printing is completed. Then the label is turned over in the press using a turn bar.

From here, regular printing is completed. Yellow, magenta, cyan, and black followed by a spot color of blue to complete the front side print. All of this is done at nearly 200 feet per minute to ensure the job is completed on time and at the best possible price.
