I am not going to bore you with a long story about how things used to be ‘back when I joined the company’ almost 20 years ago, but I do have to marvel at the huge steps we have taken.
I am writing this from 35,000 feet, traveling at almost 600mph enroute to Chicago for a global label equipment show, LabelExpo.
It wasn’t that long ago that this was science fiction – now it is a daily reality!
On this flight I was able to text people, answer emails, and even create this blog post.
I am proud to be part of a progressive company that uses the latest technology to take care of customers and produce high quality labels.
Thanks for reading – if we can help you with your next label project, please call us today.

This month I published an article on behalf of the Beverage Industry Networking Group (B.I.N.G.). The Oregon Beer Growler is a wonderful new publication that highlights the Oregon Craft Beer industry. Our group contributes a column each month that talks about the ‘business side’ of running a beverage business. This month, I made the case for why you should diversify your distribution and not just sell you beer in kegs or at your own brewpub.

Here is a brief summary of the article:
- Everything works a little – you need a mix of marketing tools
- Great Beer labels in the store allow you to show off your logo and build brand awareness
- Bottles allow you to ship your product to other geographic areas to find more customers
Once you decide you want to bottle, be sure to consider these issues:
- Proper material – specifically designed for a glass bottle
- Coordinate with your bottling service up front
- Confirm delivery time – schedules are often very tight
- Be sure to get the proper government approvals
If you want to learn more about the benefits of bottling, call us today.

Package Printing Magazine reported in its July 2012 how the many benefits of pressure sensitive (adhesive backed) labels are taking market share away from other label technologies. Many older breweries that had been using cut and stack wet glue labels (CS/WG) are now moving to roll labels. Years ago the roll label print quality wasn’t good enough for retail beverage products, so the older brewers didn’t have the option, but now they do,
Here are some of the benefits:
- Better Print Quality
- More Label Materials to Choose From, including foils and clear stocks
- Foil Stamping and Embossing Options
- Improved Line Efficiency
- Elimination of Glue Setup and Cleanup
- More Flexible Applicator Options for fast Bottle Size Changes
The biggest benefit of all, many brewers say, is the ability to run many different SKUs in small quantities. This is much more practical with roll labels – and as the number of great new beers continues to grow, the quick delivery and fast changeover of roll labels will seem better and better.
If you want to make the move from Cut and Stack labels to rolls, please call us today.

Though this doesn’t directly relate to labels, it was an interesting idea that seemed worth passing along.
Here is the story from Popular Science:
… introduced the ChillCan, a completely self-chilling can reduces a drink’s temperature by 30ºF in three minutes.

Read the full story of the Self Chilling Can
The ChillCan contains a cylindrical chamber of high-pressure CO2 gas, which ends in a valve that extends through the base of the can and is capped by a button. When the user pushes the button, the valve opens and the CO2 rushes out of the bottom of the can and into the air. As the gas expands, it absorbs heat from the surrounding liquid, lowering the temperature. Along with his can, Joseph is launching an energy drink called West Coast Chill to put in it. The drink will be available this summer in Arizona, Nevada, Southern California and online, and in stores nationally by 2014. Hopefully, beer will be next.

This is great news for wine label, beer label and spirits label buyers. The government is relaxing some standards in an effort to streamline the process and make it easier to get small revisions to market. This mostly applies to a new vintage year or a minor change to a previously approved label, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
Here are the highlights – the following will be allowed without re-approval:
- Add, delete or change awards and medals.
- Reposition any label information, including, text, illustrations and graphics.
- Minor editorial corrections that do not change the meaning of the label.
- Add,delete or change trademark or copyright symbols, kosher symbols, company logos and/or social media icons.
- Add, delete or change a vintage date.
- Add, delete or change stated bottling date, production date (day, month and/or year) or freshness information including bottling, production or expiration dates or codes.
- Add, delete or change holiday and/or seasonally themed graphics, artwork and or salutations.

This beautiful label was an honor and a joy to print. A good customer of ours in Eastern Washington was honoring the founder of their company with a very high quality, limited edition run of fresh, delicious fruit, and they asked us to provide the label.

Because the fresh fruit had a limited time to be packaged and sent to market, they were concerned about what type of label they could create. Time was very short, so they considered a simple, 2-3 color label, but really wanted to go with full color. The Rose City Label team stepped up to the plate and actually finished the project a few days ahead of schedule!
The client was thrilled with the beautiful package, and the meaningful tribute to this great man.
